Wild Things
This body of work has evolved over time to become these Wild Things. They have something energetic, almost fleshy and reptilian about them, as well as being contained and grounded. They also have an organic plant/animal ambiguity that I enjoy.
These sculptural works are driven primarily by the processes of how I work with the materials; clay and glazes. I don’t have a preconceived idea of how a work will turn out until it’s completed. Instead, I make multiple hand-built and fired parts which I then accumulate, assemble, fire and glaze. These pieces are often fired multiple times to achieve an end point that I’m satisfied with.
I don’t consider myself to be a potter as such, but more as someone who engages and explores clay and glazes – allowing these materials to have their own voice and contribution to the pieces. This allows for an explorative navigation of the interface between the intentional and the random. Always considered. But a little bit wild.
